Frank J. Wideman, III, President of The Self Family Foundation announced the following grants were awarded by the trustees at their April 22, 2017 board meeting:

Caroliniana Library at USC – $118,000 grant payable over 3 years beginning in 2018 to conserve and add the Greenwood Mills corporate records to the SC Textile Industry Collection.

Community Initiatives, Inc. – $70,000 grant payable over two years to support the Safe Haven afterschool and summer enrichment programs.

Lander University – $60,200 grant payable over 4 years to support the Call Me MISTER Initiative.

Food Bank of Greenwood County – $39,725 grant payable over two years to assist with funding a full-time executive director position.

United Center for Community Care – $30,000 grant for annual support for operations of the Center.

Healthy Learners – $25,000 grant for annual support for the Healthy Learners Greenwood program.

Governors School for Science and Mathematics Foundation – $10,000 grant to support CREATEng Summer Engineering Camp for rising Greenwood County eighth and ninth grade students.

American Red Cross Upstate Region – $10,000 grant to provide disaster relief to Greenwood area families.

Beyond Abuse – $8,100 grant to assist in renovations to add an additional space for forensic interviews.

The Self Family Foundation’s primary areas of emphasis are education, community wellness, and arts, culture & history. The Foundation’s chief geographic area of interest is Greenwood County, South Carolina. Trustees are Mat Self (Chairman), Sally Self, M.D., Jay Self, Bubba Self, Furman Self, Cade Brennan Jackson, Ginger Self Goldsmith, Laurie Self Pulver, M.D., Mary Andrews Self Whittington, Matt Logan, M.D. and Lucas McMillan, Ph.D. The Self Family Foundation was organized in 1942 and to date has awarded over $67,000,000 in grants to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Greenwood and the State of South Carolina.
