The Self Family Foundation is governed by a board of eleven voting trustees, including members of the Self Family and non-family members from the Greenwood community. A staff of three runs the Foundation’s day-to-day operations.

    W. M. (Mat) Self

    Chairman & Trustee

    Mat is a graduate of Clemson University. Mat is Chairman of GMI Holding, Inc. and is the retired President and CEO of Greenwood Mill, Inc. He is a former member of the Clemson Foundation Board. Mat resides in Greenwood with his wife Dixie.


    J. C. (Jay) Self, III

    Vice Chairman & Trustee

    Jay is a graduate of Clemson University and earned an MBA from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He is President & CEO of Greenwood Mills, Inc. Jay is a Liberty Fellow. He serves on the Greenwood Genetic Center Foundation board, the SC Research Authority, and the Palmetto Business Forum. Jay and Angela reside in Greenville. They have two sons, Jimmy and Mack.


    Sally Self, MD

    Secretary & Trustee

    Sally is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Medical School. She is an Immunopathologist and instructor in the Department of Pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has three adult children and resides in Charleston, South Carolina.


    W. M. (Bubba) Self

    Treasurer & Trustee

    Bubba is President of Greenwood Communities and Resorts. Bubba is a graduate of Furman University and earned his MBA in International Business from the Moore School at USC. He is a former member of the SC ETV Commission. Bubba resides in Greenwood with his wife, Leigh and their three daughters, Stella, Walker and Ruby.


    Furman C. Self


    Furman is a graduate of Clemson University. He is President of Citizens Trust Insurance and resides in Greenwood with his wife, Kay, and two children, Coleman and Elizabeth.


    Cade Brennan Jackson


    Cade is a graduate Emerson College, Boston MA. She also studied medieval history at the University of Cambridge in England. Cade has worked as a professional actress in Los Angeles and performed in and directed many plays throughout the Southeast. She and husband Adam reside in Asheville, NC and Greenwood, SC.


    Ginger Self Goldsmith


    Ginger is a graduate of Furman University and the Southeastern Council of Foundations’ Hull Leadership program. She is Development Associate at Upstate Forever and resides in Greenville with her husband Matt and their two dogs, Bodhi and Lucie.


    Laurie Self Pulver, MD


    Laurie is a native of Greenwood, a graduate of Davidson College, UNC Chapel Hill School of Public Health, and Duke University School of Medicine. She completed a pediatric residency at the University of Utah and then worked in the University of Utah Division of General Pediatrics. Laurie and husband Aaron live in Asheville, North Carolina with their children Maggie and Ben where she serves as a pediatrician at ABC Pediatrics and is on the board of Children First/Communities in Schools of Buncombe County.

    Mary Andrews

    Mary Andrews Self Whittington


    Mary Andrews is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the Southeastern Council of Foundations’ Hull Leadership Program. She also earned of Master of Arts in Teaching Foreign Language from the University of South Carolina. Mary Andrews and husband, Griffin, reside in Greenville.

    Matt Logan

    Matt Logan, MD


    Dr. Logan is a native of Greenwood, a graduate of Clemson University, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Residency program at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital/USC School of Medicine. He is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management at Harvard University. Dr. Logan is currently Medical Director of the Emergency Care Center at Self Regional Healthcare. He and his wife Liza have three children, Henry, James and Ann and they are members of First Presbyterian Church.

    Lucas McMillan

    Lucas McMillan, PhD


    A native of South Carolina, Dr. McMillan is a graduate of Mullins High School. He earned a B. A. degree from Wofford College and spent a semester studying international relations at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He returned to Great Britain as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and earned an M.A. in international relations from the University of Warwick in England. He completed his Ph.D. in political science at the University of South Carolina. Lucas and his wife Lisa are the parents of Will and Henry and are members of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. He is currently Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of Political Science at Lander University.



      Frank J Wideman, III



      Frank is a native of Washington DC. He attended the Episcopal High School in Alexandria Virginia and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in political science. Frank served 24 years in the United States Army retiring in 1993 as a lieutenant colonel. Since then, he has served as president of the Self Family Foundation. Frank has served as board chair of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and as board member of the National Center for Family Philanthropy. Frank lives on a fifth generation family farm (built in 1825) near Bradley, South Carolina, with his wife Lisa, six dogs, and two cats. They have two grown daughters.

      Mamie W. Nicholson

      Program Officer


      Mamie is the Program Officer of the Foundation. She is a graduate of Piedmont Technical College and Limestone College. She is also a graduate of the Council on Foundations Institute for New Staff, The Grantmaking School’s Advanced Proposal Analysis class, Leadership Greenwood and Leadership South Carolina and is a Riley Institute Diversity Fellow.

      She is married to Floyd and they are the parents of Anthony (Nancie), Antonio (Tameka) and Michael.

      Patricia Polattie

      Administrative Assistant


      Patricia is the Administrative Assistant at The Self Family Foundation in Greenwood, South Carolina. Patricia joined the Foundation in 2015 after completing her associate’s degree at Piedmont Technical College. Patricia provides administrative support to the President and Program Officer. She manages office logistics for the Foundation.
